1. Save water
- Keep your showers under 4 minutes
- Swap your shower head for a water saving one, for free!
Visit your water reatailers website for more information:

2. Save electricity
- Every time you leave a room, make sure you turn off the lights!
- Switch your old light globes to the new energy saving ones and save money on your bills too.
- Turn appliances like toasters off at the switch. When they are on stand-by they are still using power.
- Turn the heater down and put a jumper on instead.
3. Recycle
- Sort out your recycling bins so it’s a lot easier to divide up paper, plastic,
glass, cans and general waste. If you’re really enthusiastic you could even have a bin for composting food scraps. The more you recycle, the less ends up in landfill.
- Don’t throw away your old toys, donate them to charity so other people can enjoy them.
4. Plant trees
- Trees absorb carbon dioxide which is a product of car and manufacturing
exhaust and contributes to greenhouse gasses and they also make oxygen. Visit your local nursery and see what trees are native to your area.
5. Start a vegetable patch at home or at school
- Growing your own vegetables is a really healthy way to help the
environment because it cuts down the transport needed to get the food to you. It’s also a great way to use that compost you’re recycling.
6. Take public transport, ride or walk whenever you can
- Cars are a very big contributor to carbon emissions and using them as little as possible helps to reduce greenhouse gasses. Use public transport, your bike or walk as often as you can as an alternative to driving.
